TAP DANCE REVOLUTION

It is always a great feeling to come across an app or a game that takes established methodologies and gameplay elements and turns them upside down. Dancing Line by Cheetah games is one such game - not only is it deceivingly tough, it also incorporates beautiful music and simple gameplay elements in a single, surprise package.

Dancing Line combines some beautiful, etheral music with fast-paced gameplay to create an audio-visual experience like no other games. You are tasked with guiding an ever elongating line through a definite path between obstacles, while reacting instantly to changes in the game world environment.

The twist in this game though comes through a judicious soundtrack which is synced to your movement, allowing you to play even with your eyes closed because you can trust the music to tell you when to tap.

Casual gamers take note: this game is tough and is not for the faint hearted. It requires maximum concentration, and lives are fairly limited.

To begin with you have three levels unlocked, and as you progress through them, the subsequent levels unlock based on your total progress. Your reflexes need to be super-fast and can be timed with the music playing in the background. Tapping the screen once takes a sharp turn, which in turn allows you to navigate around obstacles.

Each level has a different look and feel, and I often encountered moving platforms and sudden changes in camera angles which can easily throw someone off their game. Lives in the game are in form of cubes, and even though you have 30 of them to start with, they do not amount to much considering the difficulty of the game.

Each level of the game evokes a different soundtrack and a whole new level design based on a particular season. Playing with the beat actually helps in this game, as you soon get lost in the rhythm and your fingers start tapping automatically in the rhythm.

The score is gorgeous and quite evocative in nature, and I really wish I got to hear more of it before meeting in-game permadeath.

Possibly my biggest gripe with the game is that there are just not enough lives available, especially since the game requires a considerable amount of trial and error. Since it is a game based on the fremium model, you need to either pay for cubes or wait out close to an hour for half of your cubes to recharge. Buying lives cost quite a bit.

PROS:
  • Amazing music-synced gameplay is a joy to listen to and play with.
  • Uncluttered visuals.
  • Very few ads.
  • Lives are in short quantity and don't recharge fast enough.
  • Pricey options to buy life-cubes or remove ads.
  • I found the touch response to be lagging sometimes.
  • Overall polish is lacking.
CONS:

Dancing Line is a game which realy made me sit up and take notice. What this game misses out in overall finish, it makes up with the presence of gorgeous soundscapes. Couple that with the challenge of scoring better at every turn, and I feel that this game definitely has some longevity power as long as it updates the app with more life-cubes.
